Rake Race Tips

Here are some tips so that you can win more money in rake races.

1. Find the right balance between playing many tables and paying enough attention to each of them!

The way to win a rake race is usually to spend as many hours playing poker as possible. Your number of hours strongly depends on how many tables you play at the same time. Try to maximize the number of tables you play but only up to the point where you can still pay attention. Don't overdo it! Poker is about winning money and it makes no sense to win a rake race and to lose more at the tables in the meantime than you earn by winning the race.

2. Try to pick your tables carefully!

During a race the poker room usually compares the amount of rake each player pays. To pay more rake you should try to find loose tables where people build big pots. This can strongly influence your performance in the race!

3. Don't play at limits for which you don't have enough bankroll!

At most online poker rooms the maximum rake is $3. This means that at a NL$2/$4 table the rake is not much less than at a NL$5/$10 table. As soon as the pot reaches $60 there is no more rake deducted as the maximum rake of $3 is paid. Always keep in mind that the main goal in poker is to win money. Don't put yourself into a situation where you lose money because you play too high stakes while you would probably be winning at lower stakes. You can lose much more at the tables than what the rake race pays if you don't play the stake that fits your abilities and bankroll!

4. Play continuously!

It doesn't matter if you play 10-12 hours a day for one or two days if you don't sit down to play for a whole week in a monthly race. Try to plan how many hours a day you can play and try to keep playing those hours every day. To win one of these races you need stamina. If you feel a whole month is too long for you at the beginning try to enter a weekly race first.
